The Super Villain Girls are a group of female super villains in the second generation of the DC Super Hero Girls franchise that causes mayhem across the city of Metropolis.

Development and design[]

According to Lauren Faust, each of the villain girls is associated with a deadly motivation in a similar vein to the seven deadly sins[1]:

  • Catwoman: Greed
  • Giganta: Violence
  • Livewire: Sadism
  • Poison Ivy: Hate
  • Star Sapphire: Envy
  • Harley Quinn: Chaos

Livewire is the only one that does not have a real counterpart in the original 2015 web series. Giganta is the only member who shares the same villain role as her first generation counterpart.

History[]

The team was formed after the Super Hero Girls thwarted Catwoman's robbery. When Supergirl realized that she couldn't do it all alone, she called her friends to help her stop Catwoman. Finding herself outnumbered, Catwoman leaves her bag with the stolen gems behind, and she thinks that the best thing is that she has to get new friends. And so it happened: in "Frenemies", Selina managed to befriend four other students, Doris Zeul, Leslie Willis, Carol Ferris, and Pam Isley. Then Harleen Quinzel, an old friend of Barbara Gordon's before she met her new friends, also moves from Gotham City to Metropolis, and Barbara wants Harleen to join her new circle of friends, and though Diana, Kara, Jessica, Zee and Karen do their best to cheer up Babs, realize that Harleen is a bit annoying, and reject her. After that, Selina invites Harleen join their team by revealing that she and the other four are villains. Harleen assumes her identity as Harley Quinn and joined them.

In the crossover movie Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse, the Super Villain Girls were recruited by Lex Luthor to join his newly formed team of villains, the Legion of Doom, to get rid of all superheroes. However, Harley Quinn realized that the Legion was going too far, so she left both teams and helped the heroes save the world. And when the Super Hero Girls gave each other a victory hug, they accepted Harley into their team.

Star Sapphire is extremely clingy, and because of this, she is shown to be rather psychopathic.

But despite the only reason she was a villain was because she was angry was because Hal Jordan had broken up with her and since the two of them returned in "It's Complicated", she stayed with the team and joined the Legion of Doom in Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse, revealing that she didn't totally reformed.

Trivia[]

  • As of the episodes "It's Complicated" and "Nightmare in Gotham", Harley Quinn and Star Sapphire are the only female villains who had reformed themselves.
    • In It's Complicated, only because Star Sapphire and Hal Jordan got back together again.
    • In Nightmare in Gotham, only because Harley Quinn and Batgirl now aware of their indentities.
      • However, the difference is that Star Sapphire hasn't totally reformed, while with Harley Quinn, Batgirl had hope that she would reform, something that happened in the crossover movie.
  • Cheetah was originally going to be part of the team, but according Lauren Faust, she is not considered part of the main villain group due to redundancy in theme, as she shares the trait of envy with Star Sapphire and the theme of cats with Catwoman; and that Livewire had replaced her.
  • The team was formed before Harleen moved to Metropolis, as seen in the first part of "Frenemies". This indicates that the five female villains, excluiding Harley Quinn, are all permanent members.
  • Blackfire joined in the DC Super Hero Girls and Teen Titans Go crossover Exchange Students.
